Looking at getting an extension but am clueless!

Can someone please explain to me how the process works?

We'd like an architect to draw up plans so do we get them in to do these with the intention of them putting in the planning application? Would the architect do this? Or do we apply for permission ourselves then get an architect on board??

Really don't want to bombard the architect with basic questions

How do we find out if PP is likely to be granted? Can I ask the council provisionally without it going 'on record'?

not sure how many times I can get the word 'architect' into one post!

We started with the architect, he had loads of ideas and answers. He did the planning permission for us too.
