Having had an electrics emergency last week, this week it's the boilers turn and we have no bloody hot water!

The pump is still making a noise like usual but the water isn't heating. Anyone want to help me diagnose the issue... and know about how much it's going to cost me?!

Was just about to book a holiday, guess I'm not now Sad

Have you turned it off and on again?

Gas boiler? What is the pressure displayed as?

Yeah, I turned it off and on again. I think the pressure was right down but I assumed that was because it wasn't in. Could that be it?
DH turned it on around 11pm and it was hot again so I have no idea what's going on! Definitely wouldn't come on when I tried from 5.30 to 9pm. It's not on a timer or anything, it's meant to just come on when you turn the tap.
Grrrrrr!!! Angry

have you got a hot water cylinder? What colour? What floor is it on?

Does the boiler have a pressure gauge? What does it read?

If you bleed the highest radiator in the house, does water squirt out forcefully and without dying away?

what does the boiler pressure read when hot, and what does it read when cold?

Update- had a man out and we need a new boiler Sad
Apparently our boiler is 30 years old and the part that's died can't be replaced so the whole lot has to go. Been quoted £1500 (all in) for a Worcester Bosch i 30kw boiler with a 10 yr guarantee. Looking around, this looks like a good quote...I think. Anyone got a different opinion?

Sounds reasonable. Check that the new boiler has the capacity for an extra radiators, showers, etc you might want to add in the future.
