We're looking at options and came across velstone. I'm quite interested, and would love to hear of any experience from the trusted and discerning hive mind.

We'll be putting in an island and I like the idea that we could have it across the top and wrappped down over the sides with bonded seams so it would effectively be seamless. We'd be looking at a very pale colour, maybe the Orion onyx and have been told to steer clear of white granite as it's so porous and would stain, also can't do wrapped ends due to the weight of stone.

Other option is solid oak but plenty have tried to put me off that notion already!

Is Velstone the same as Silestone? I've had Silestone fitted. It is VERY heavy. The moulded sink had to have an extra thick piece of wood running under it to support the weight. It is absolutely fabulous stuff though and looks amazing. No more using trivets for hot pans... you can just plonk anything on it.

Hi nightsky no they're not the same thing. I've heard lots of great things about silestone but it's out of our price range I think, I'm not entirely sure what the difference is though!

I really need to do more research Blush
