Moving to Hastings or Hove?

We are 2 foreigners from Scandinavia and North Europe, without kid but working on it, into arts and technology. I am pretty keen to move to Hove for the atmosphere and my husband is interested in Hastings to get a bigger house.
Any advice to share? Which city is the safest? Which one has the most pendants lights shops (my husband is scared of kitsch shops in Brighton).
Is Hastings a good place for 2 non-British people?

Both areas have their problems but I prefer Hove. Not as scuzzy as Brighton, lively High Street, easy to get around. Think schools might be a problem though and house prices are high. Hastings has much cheaper housing and pockets of trendy places- St Leonard's? Very deprived though in some areas. It's arty but doesn't have the breadth of culture that Brighton/Hove does in my opinion.

Hove - Hastings came out as one of the worst places in the country to live a few years ago.

If you like Hove have a look at Shoreham by Sea just 5 miles up the coast .. We lived there until about 10 years ago when we moved for jobs and loved it . Still have friends there .. .. its great with good connections to Brighton & Hove for shopping and London . nice atmosphere , good small arts/music scene.. farmersmarket etc.. Houses are cheaper than Hove and it has a nice small high street ,,

Its going to help me. @Laska5772 I'm going to check Shoreham by Sea. I don't know if I like Hove better than other parts near Brighton. I just like Brighton but need to find a nice and quieter corner to convince my husband to move there! I love farmers markets.
Thanks @Aryanwin for the heads up. I would hope to get a 2bed house for less than 400k but that's naive. We may have 280k cash and need a loan so it depends what jobs we can get...

Rottingdean is a nice spot, might be pricey now though. Ditchling if you aren't fussed about being right on the coast.

Hi all and thanks for your replies!
I am very obsessed with Brighton (Hove, etc) and this is due to the fact that I like the tolerance and non conformism. I also like that it's near London but it works on its own too. People seem very friendly (I went there twice but do a lot of research). How can I convince my husband to move there from perfect Scandinavia?

Hove without a shadow of a doubt. Second having a look at Shoreham,my DM lives there and it's a nice place very close to Brighton and Hove.

I live between Hove and Hastings. If you can afford Hove then I'd go there. You'll still get a lot of that tolerant, non-conformist vibe that central Brighton has, but it's quieter and not as touristy. Hastings isn't as bad as some people here are making out, (and it's a hell of a lot cheaper), but it's very deprived in areas so you would need to choose carefully, and it definitely hasn't got the Brighton-esque 'vibe' that I think you are looking for.
