Has anyone had a dormer roof addded?

This kind of horrible thing (not my actual house)

My house currently only has a dormer on one side/in a bedroom and I want it extended to the other side so that I have full height in the bathroom. The size of the new roof would probably be about 2/3 of the one in the photo.

I've had 1 quote which was shocking. I've contacted loads of other people, but as seems to be the norm it's so hard getting anyone to contact you and arrange to come round (or they just don't turn up).
I'm just wondering if anyone had any ideas of how much I should expect this to cost?

I've been told that it is the same cost as converting the loft was in the first place - so between £1200 - £2000 per square metre depending on area and finish. Which I found shocking.

Mine isn't a converted loft, it's just how the house is built. I already have a bathroom but it has a sloping ceiling.

House was built in the 60s when showers weren't very common.
