Monocouche/render over pebbledash

Our house (Victorian semi) has ugly brown pebbledash covering the top half. Our neighbours (other half of semi) have covered theirs completely (including brickwork) with Monocouche render in white which looks lovely but very modern.

I wanted to preserve the lovely old wooden porch and keep the original brickwork but paint over the pebbledash in white or do the rendering. Would it look odd to have rendering on just half the house though? Any ideas of cost/experiences would be appreciated too.
