Groby, Ratby, Kirby Muxloe villages are nice, safe, good schools, good facilities, etc

Newtown Linford is beautiful but more rural and a bit pricier.

Depends entirely on your budget- can you give us idea on needs vs wants in house?

I'd look at the school results and then look for houses in the catchment areas of those that appeal to you. Schools in Leicestershire have very mixed results, a poorly rated school can be very near an exceptional one. It doesn't necessarily reflect the type of housing or area.
Sphynxster has made good suggestions.

Our budget is £180ish. Would like 3 beds, good sized garden and DH would like a garage or at least a driveway, but we realise that compromise (sp) is going to be needed. Thank you for your suggestions.

How rural do you want to be? - there are lots of lovely villages around Coalville. If you want a few things nearby you could look at Ashby which is a nice little market town. More urban - Derby, Leicester, Nottingham and possibly even Birmingham are all commutable in 40 mins

Do you want to live in a town or a village location? There are some parts of Coalville itself that are nicer than others. Hugglescote is nice and you can walk in to town from there. Ravenstone is similar. If you would prefer a village location then some of the others suggested would be good. Other villages nearby are Belton, Osgathorpe and Long Watton. Another option if you want a town is to look at Loughborough or Shepshed.

Not Coalville itself! Or Shepshed, it's awful (I know it well). Whitwick isn't great either.
Hugglescote is ok. Belton and Long Whatton are lovely but quite pricey. Ashby is nice. Osgathorpe is nice too.

Have a look at Loughborough. It has quite a few new things popping up and the council seem to be putting some money into the centre. I'd happily live there with kids it has a good vibe.

I'd look at Ashby TBH, it's a lovely town, lots going on, plenty of choice of housing, leisure centre, good schools right up to sixth form. Everywhere in the area seems to be building at the moment. Hinckley, Loughborough also worth a look but do check schools. There's a lot of development round the edge of Coalville but the town centre is rather run down like many ex-colliery towns in the area.

There is no reason to have a long commute halfway across Leicestershire when your DH could be near enough to cycle or be home in 10 minutes. Although there are some lovely villages, they tend to be pricey and thin on facilities/transport.

Just suggest you check out the HS2 route as Phase 2 is planned up beside the M42 near Measham.
