New job - buying/selling and mortgage

My husband and I were going to put our house on the market and try and get somewhere bigger this year, however he's been approached about a potential new job.
Does anyone have any recent experience of how this might impact on mortgage applications? I'm assuming we'll have to hold off on moving this year if he gets the job but thought I'd check here before getting stuck on the phone with brokers etc

I don't think you can get a mortgage when on probation at a new job. Might be worth googling!
