Honeywell CM927 thermostat problems - anyone?

After working perfectly for over 3 years, my Honeywell thermostatic controller has lost connection with the panel by the boiler.

I've changed batteries and tried the instructions on Honeywell's website to rebind them but it just enters the rebinding mode but doesn't connect. The panel by the boiler has a flashing red light.

I'm trying to establish if the fault is likely to be with the controller (which is free standing and easy to replace) or with the wired part that connects to the boiler? Don't mind calling someone out but it would be such a waste of time and money if they just tell me to buy a new controller anyway.

if it's lost wireless connection, carry the thermostat part over to the boiler and hold them fairly close while you try rebinding. There's a faint chance of interference, e.g. from a wifi router or smartphone, baby monitor, perhaps a microwave.

it might possibly help if you take the battery out for a few minutes first.

you are sure they're new alkaline batteries?

I prefer the wired version because it has less to go wrong.

Thanks for responding!

Yes, I've been trying the rebinding with them really close to each other in the kitchen.

The new batteries are brand new from a package just bought a few weeks back. Will try taking them out for a bit again.

Never had a problem with it before, I did wonder about interference but there's nothing new that could have caused it (no microwave or baby monitor at all) unless it's picking up something from the neighbours.

We got a new wireless doorbell and it totally knocked out our wireless thermostat connection (turned out it was on the same frequency). Maybe check with the neighbours if they've got anything new? The wireless doorbell had to go back to the shop!
