Exposed reclaimed brick feature pillar

We have a old corner of original house in our extension which is too costly to remove (many more RSJs etc) so we've built in into the design.

I'm keen to make a feature of it. It will contain our soil pipe from the bathroom which is being boxed in.

I'm thinking of reclaimed brick slips or a reclaimed brick feature pillar.

Anyone have any thoughts/experience?

It seems that the colour/finish of the bricks is key so I'll get some samples. See attached for the kind of idea....

Do they need treating to prevent dust continually shedding?
Is it a bad idea?
It would be partially in the kitchen and partially in dining area.

Any other advice?

I like the idea. Topps tiles have some lovely red brick slips in at the moment. I'd make sure you go for individual slips so it looks real, not a piece of tile with a couple of bricks in it.

We have an exposed brick wall in one room (one of the few decorating decisions of the previous owner that I haven't wanted to change). I don't know if it was treated, based on her other decisions I'd assume not, but it doesn't shed dust and everyone loves it.
