White paint for whole house

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a recommendation of a good white paint to use throughout my house, there is too much choice out there I don't know where to start.

I have a newish house (built 80's) and I'm going for a Scandinavian look (white walls and real oak floors). I don't want to go for something too stark/clinical or too creamy.

I know Crown - Sail white is supposed to be a lovely white.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

We've used antique white from b&q colours and it looks quite crisp yet warm to me.

Ah Timeless seems to be very popular! I'll definitely go! I'm going to buy some sample pots and try and all out.

Timeless is fab and we have used it several times but it can be cold in a North facing room.

We found timeless was really cold. It looks lovely in other people's houses though.

I've used Dulux light and space and it's fab! Lovely quality and has lots of almost white shades which make the room feel very spacious

That's the thing, I think in an ideal world it's maybe better to choose different whites for the different rooms depending on their aspect. But ideally I would prefer to just choose one paint for the whole house - it does make it easier.

I definitely want to avoid the stark/clinical look.

We've got some bedrooms in Timeless too and it's lovely, but more the creamy end of white I'd say.

I have it in all my bedrooms and 2 are N facing and I don't think it looks cold.

I'm actually redecorating next month but I have loved this colour all the time it's been up. I didn't want white with a hint of yellow/blue/pink etc I wanted white that looked white without being blinding!

and plain old trade white, huge tub - (not pure brilliant white) in a couple of places

I'm just using dulux trade supermatt white everywhere in our house. It is a pure white but not brilliant and has a lovely matt chalky finish.

Also if you have a Brewers decorator centre near you this month's House Beautiful has a 20% off voucher for all paint which made it about £30 a 10 litre tub.

I decided on this after reading this article rockmystyle.co.uk/finding-the-right-white-volume-two/.

There are a lot of ideas about other whites there too!

Ah Suzy I came across that article last night too! It's fab isn't it? She also recommends Timeless and Sail White in it. But I will also try out the trade supermatt as another option. Weirdly the name makes me think it would be really stark white?? But I do like the fact it has a chalky finish so will give it a go. Thanks for the rec on paint discount.

We've just painted brilliant white downstairs and it looks fab. Not clinical or cold at all, once we had our personal items etc out.

I didn't really want to start up another thread, so I hope you don't mind me asking another question. The rooms I'm putting wooden floors down in are 13ftx10ft and 13x13ft and kind of run into each other, so fairly open plan. The rooms aren't huge, but not teeny tiny either so I'm wondering if it's better to go for wider planks of wood or the more standard size? I'm worried that the narrower planks will look a bit busy in the room?

Yeah so I have PBW downstairs and Timeless upstairs. Love them both but I like timeless for the bedrooms.
