Surveyor report late wwyd

Our surveyor asked for 2.5 weeks to complete our home buying survey, we were fine with this as it fit nicely with everything else going on.

The survey report was due middle of last week and we still do not have it. I have emailed for updates daily and so far been told it has been emailed twice and check my spam which I did and there was nothing. Then I was told they will send it in a different format still nothing has arrived. Today I was told that the wind last week has taken out their broadband and they can not access the report without broadband and will send it ASAP.

I know that they have visited the property because they agent said they have been in for the key.

I just get the feeling we are being fobbed off and really not sure what to do now. Any advice please.

How weird, never known it to take so long!

Not great advice, but do they have an office you can go to and collect on a memory stick? Or can they read you through it on the phone?

That's rubbish. You should get the surveyor to talk you through any urgent findings over the phone and collect a hard copy from their office. Sounds like they might be disorganised and not written it up yet. Perhaps you could complain and get some of your fee refunded for the inconvenience.

That is nuts - is he off sick or has he left the firm? They could send the report from a smartphone in this day and age!

Thank you for your quick responses. I was wondering about going to the office but it seemed a little OTT until now.

He is a one man band and came recommended. I think I will ask for the main points via email and arrange to pick up a hard copy.

Thanks again for the advice I am really stressed about the whole house buying process and not thinking straight. This has made it much clearer.

Have you paid him yet? If not I would give him till the end of the week to supply his report or you'll instruct someone else. He wouldn't be pratting round like this if he were acting for a mortgage lender.

Yes, he asked for payment upfront. I just wish i knew what the actual problem was so we can move on.

Hmm - how did you pay him? If you used a credit card, you may be protected and you should contact the credit card company and tell them you've paid for a service you haven't received. Check he is actually a member of RICS and has kept up his membership and contact them for advice.

Thanks for your input wow, he was paid by cheque which has been cashed. He is a member of the RICS so will ask them for advice if I do not get a satisfactory answer tomorrow.

Ours was like this and they worked for a major mortgage lender. We received it eventually but it was littered with errors, e.g. discussing the house's gas supply when there isn't even gas in the village. It delayed our purchase and annoyed the vendor. We meant to complain but were so relieved to finally be in after 5 months (with no chain on either side) that we never did.

"acted for" not "worked for"!

After a very straight to the point email we have our report. There are lots of inaccuracies but on the whole the property seems in a reasonable condition, Thank you for all the messages
