Advice re plastering.

In the process of having my flat rewired. Original plan was to make good the plaster around the work and also plaster a couple of areas where there are cracks and blown plaster (approx a 3rd of 3 walls). I know that there are quite a lot of other areas of blown plaster but they are covered by lining paper and decorators giving quotes have said that they can work round the smaller bits or patch things up. Plasterer comes in today, identifies all areas of blown plaster and says it's better to get it all done at once and says he can do it all but the quote is almost triple the original price for repairing round the rewiring work and not what i had budgeted for. I'm not sure if all the blown plaster needs doing, or if the bits under lining paper, which i'm going to paint over, can be left. Any advice from people with more knowledge about plastering than me.

If you know someone willing to patch it up for a third the price, ask them. It will not be anywhere near as good as skimming the whole wall.

p.s.

If you have blown plaster, sooner or later it will fall off.

This will be depressing if it happens after you have decorated, laid a carpet, etc.

The lining paper is to hide horrible plaster underneath.

You can DIY patch up and paper over. Good wallpaper can hide a lot.
