I'd love to get a stove fitted in my fireplace. I believe the chimney would need lined in order for this to work. I was also told by a friend that the wall around the fireplace would need to be made fire retardant. Is this standard practice for anyone getting a stove fitted, and would the approved installers do this as part of the job?

Yes the chimney would need to be lined.

I believe there needs to be a certain space between the sides of the stove and the fireplace. My stove fitters did it all, they knocked a big hole in the chimney breast formthe stove, did fireproof plasterboard stuff, lined the chimney and fitted the wood mantle thingy.

Thanks, that's really helpful to know that the fitters did all this. I was dreading having to find builders to do it!

Yy pp we had our fireplace opened up & fire boards at the the sides & bricks at the back of the stove, our chimney was lined, all done by the stove installers.
