Saniflow

I am going to be asking a lot of questions on here I think, as I am going through the moving process.

We are having an en suite put into a holiday cottage we have just bought.
It's the only option as it's listed, and the en suite is in a loft room. We don't think it will rent without the extra toilet.

Has anyone got a good one? They seem very expensive, so I want to make sure I go for the right one. Do they just go with an ordinary toilet? Thanks.

We have one, it is noisy and I dread it going wrong - we have a no solids rule just in case...

PigletJohn (the resident expert on such things) detests them.

My friend has one in her downstairs loo. She avoids using it. I don't know if some are better than others but hers isn't great. It is very noisy (I wouldn't want it in an ensuite). And if anyone puts anything like a tampon or baby wipe down the loo, it blocks the Saniflow, and she has to get a plumber out to fix it - I imagine this could be a big problem with a holiday let.

If it's an old building, I imagine that it has a cast-iron soil pipe climbing up the side of the house and reaching above the highest window. If so, you can run the WC to that.

Rather than a Saniflow, buy your guests a bucket and a spade, and ask them to dig a hole in the garden.

Sadly the soil pipe is only on the ground floor, and at the front right. En Suite is top floor, back of the house on the left.. It can't go through the floor.

The plumber hates saniflow too! But says it's the only option. We can't rent it out without a second bathroom so we are between a rock and a hard place.

We have one in our loft coversion , which was there when we bought the house. I'm scared to use it, but was told by a plumber that it should be flushed at least every other week as otherwise the water in the unit/pipes can go stagnant. On the occasional time it's used (we have two other toilets), it's most definitely wee only (and minimal bog roll)! And don't flush it at night, as it's pretty loud!
Ours is a turboflush rather than a saniflo, I think.
