How much was your glass splash back in kitchen?

Had decided on glass but hadn't at all appreciated the price! First quote come in at £1.1k for area of 0.9sqm with one socket cut out. I almost choked! Is this normal? It includes the template and installation, and I really do appreciate the precision and skill involved in the work, but.... It's such a small area!

Having a modern looking kitchen in new extension and just don't think tiles will look good but will have to reconsider. Acrylic won't work as have hob in that section.

Have you thought about mirror (assuming you have no gas hob?) I use it a lot in my renovations. Looks good and is relatively inexpensive. For comparison mirror for that size would be under £300. Laser cut outs for sockets at the local glaziers are £35 per socket. Try your local glazier in general as they will be able to quote you or put you in the direction of someone who can help. Definitely shop around. We got a quote from a local company then found an online splashback company was substantially cheaper, and managed to get the local one to price match. But they are expensive :(

Thanks all. We have an induction hob there, not gas. In the kitchen showrooms I liked the look of the mirror glass but DH against it so I don't think that's an option really but thank you.

I've asked a local glazing company, waiting for their quote and filled in an online form last night for an internet one... I knew it would be pricey, but I really wasn't expecting that!

I haven't done it as we had already bought the lime green glass, but SIL just painted the wall, the colour she wanted th splashback, then had normal heat resistant glass fitted over it. It looks really good.

We got ours from a local glass place who cut it to size. For a standard sized blue glass splashback it was about £100 (4 years ago) even though the kitchen places were charging around £300. Probably worth checking out local businesses.

Ours runs the full length of a wall - about 6.5 meters I think and was a little over £1500 which included templating, socket cut outs etc.

^ meant to say it fills the entire space between the work surface and units so not just a small upstand.

We had two pieces of coloured glass. One is 2m and goes up to the cooker hood for part of its run so I guess we paid for at least 2 sqared meters with 2 sockets cut out. Plus another longish piece that's about 30cm high. Paid 1k Inc fitting & VAT. This year. Local glass company.

Ours would have been about 1.5 k for whole kitchen. I remember it is not the glass that was the expensive bit it was the templating and cutting around sockets etc that cost £££ If you could do without that socket and just buy a standard bit of glass it would be much cheaper. We were also given the option of finishing the glass lower and having the socket above to reduce price. We also went local

Local glass merchant charges £450 per sq m plus Vat plus £50 per cut out. So expensive!

£120. Dark toughened glass cut to size by local glazing company. Is great as it fits perfectly having been templated around the cooker hood

I really hope you get a lower price as it is imho the best thing to have for splash backs, just because it is so easy to clean!

I made my own. Had glass cut to size, painted the back of it, dh glued it into place. It lasted years!

We used emberglass and paid £337 for this piece. It's 1.5 meters long. Designed it myself. Love it!
