Moving phone socket

Does anyone know whether you have to get Openreach to move a phone line entry point? We'd like to move ours to a different room which would entail extending the cable outside by a few feet and moving the socket inside.

Yes - the master socket is openreaches responsibility and if it is moved by anyone else and affects you services you will be charged for the repair - you could get an electrician to fit an extension instead

You can add an extension yourself, and leave the master socket where it is.

Thanks - I feared it was an Openreach job. Unfortunately the master socket is in a daft place which means there is a mess of cables and router and telephone are on a window sill cluttering the place up. The hall would be a much better location.
