Need a given size, but don't have the tools!

They didn't when I asked something to do with health and safety

OK. I see that B&Q do, though I understand they won't cut certain things like MDF.

B&Q do but only in strips lengthways. They won't then cut the strips down for you.

So a sheet of 1m x 2m pdf they would cut into 2m long strips for you but wouldn't then cut the strip down further so that the narrow strips were less than the 2m.

Its a free service though.

Our Wickes don't but B&Q and Homebase do but I don't think all branches do. You will have to check with the individual stores.
(If you go to one that does check out their offcut bin - I have had some really good deals on bits of wood for shed shelving etc)

There's no Health and safety role forbidding cutting wood, I think the ones in your store were just lazy!
They cut for me, 50p a cut, and the guy was really proud that he would cut them to 1mm accuracy ;)

B&Q cut mdf for me too - and cut it exactly to size...
