Remortgaging on Maternity Leave

I'm starting to look at our upcoming remortgage and I've been on maternity leave for most of this year, currently on SMP. I'm the main wage earner usually, though DP has a decent salary and is permanent. Any ideas which companies this won't be an issue for? I've heard good things about Nationwide but would like to know of any others!

We've just applied for a new mortgage and I'm on maternity leave. Nationwide are fine with it and virgin money are also happy (that's who we've got our offer in principle from)

It was a few years ago now (things might have improved) but I think any of the banks connected with Santander would only consider my maternity pay as my salary. We went with Nationwide - just had to provide letter from my employer saying I was going back to work on same terms.

Fab thank you - looks like Nationwide is the best option so far. I didn't know that about Santander.

Thanks both Smile

I had no problems with Nationwide recently, didn't even need a letter.

Not sure if remortgaging would be any different to an FTB mortgage, but we've just had our mortgage approved by HSBC based on both our FT salaries even though I'm not due back to work until early next year. I just needed a letter from my employer to confirm that I am returning to work on X date plus my contracted hours and salary.

When I first asked about this when applying for our agreement in principle over the phone, the HSBC person sounded a bit surprised and said: "Oh we don't discriminate you because you're on maternity leave!" (My reply was "Phew!")

I had no problems when I did this with HSBC. I was the higher earner at the time.

No probs here just had to provide a letter from hr to say I planned to return on the same terms. Although my he sept did question how they knew I was returning for sure ! But they wrote it in the end 😊
