We are in the early stages of a small extension and new kitchen. We're being pressured a little, into going for granite worktops at a cost of around £6k. Our project manager is saying in a house like ours it would be wise to choose granite; future potential buyers would expect it. The house is an averaged sized 4 bed detached, late 1980s on an estate. It's not our forever home - we will probably be here for another 2 to 3 years, 5 at the most. We're trying to choose a kitchen we really like, but also choose wisely for resale (which is his point). I don't think someone would NOT buy a house because worktops aren't granite. We don't want wood. We though about composite but our PM says it's almost as expensive as granite these days...
Just wondered what else we should consider For what it's worth, the total extension/new kitchen budget is 30k all in. The house is worth around 520k atm. The actual kitchen units will be Howdens, so nothing flash.
Any words of wisdom?
Thanks.
