Selling an Aga - is it worth it?

We inherited a cream, two oven, two ring gas Aga with our house a couple of years ago. Now the kitchen is getting done I can't wait to get shot of it (but that is another post!) The question I have it - is it worth selling it privately on eBay etc? We have had it serviced both years we've been here but of course it's not in perfect condition with some scratches to hot plate lids etc I know the local Aga shop would give us £300 to dismantle and take away with them so they could recondition and sell. I'm having kittens about what to do with it now and DH is not remotely interested. Any opinions gratefully received!

Join the group 'I love my aga' on Facebook and ask there. You'll get your answer.

Have you looked up sold prices on eBay?

Have a look on gumtree also. No selling fees.

Thanks both! Not sure I'll have a warm welcome on the 'I love my Aga' group though wink

Fields, it's a really lovely group. They will all say you are mad to sell but it's a huge group of people including many who refurbish them, sell them and many people who have bought second hand ones. I seem to remember everyone being amazed someone managed to buy a second hand one directly off a seller for £3k ish. So do join and ask the question. Just be polite about agas!

Wish I'd known about that group. We couldn't use ours in the new house and our buyers didn't want it. Cost £400 to dismantle and move, then I think we got about £800 on ebay for a 4-oven one.

Thank you! I will be tactful about the Aga smile It would be great to sell it and get a decent price for it but convenience might winvif it turns out to be too much hassle! x

Hi got mine on eBay for £500 a couple of years ago. We dismantled it.

There is a company called we buy any aga. Though they don't! Some don't have enough re sale value for them to bother, but they will advise you of that.

If you sell it privately, who is going to disconnect it from the gas supply and safely cap that off, dismantle and move it? It's not like a slot in cooker. Zombie had her ancient Aga replaced with a new one about 5 years ago and it was a huge job.

Op will have to pay a specialist to do all that Zombie. As I said, we paid £400 for the service.

Hi, wonder if you could give an update on what you managed to do with your AGA? We inherited a 1970s oil-fired one and I'm trying to sell it but noone wants it! Thanks.
