Grey carpet with stone coloured walls?

We've got laminate at the mo but really want carpet to cosy the room up. This is our first house so never decorated before!

The walls are currently a soft stone colour and he thinks dark grey carpet is the way to go Confused I can't see it and think we should go for a warmer beigey carpet to match the walls more.

What do you think?

I'd get some samples from the carpet shop, in each colour and then choose. Colours look different in shop lighting and the colour of the walls will affect the colour when the carpet is in the room.

Depends on your decor and style. Dark grey carpet could look quite functional and office or shop like. It would also show lots of white bits up (hope you haven't got any dogs or cats with white fur. A neutral beige carpet would look more cosy and homely.

If it's a dark warm grey it could be ok, but I think a more taupey colour would be better. Dark grey is a bit severe and if it's all one colour (instead of speckled) it will look dirty constantly.

Apparently there is a colour called greige which is in at the moment
Which room is it for?
You will almost certainly need underlay apart from a bedroom
which takes less bashing.
What about the window coverings? They need to match too

The curtains are a taupe sort of colour. We've got some samples and hrs still adamant about the dark grey but I just think it will be a big mistake.

He thinks my lighter beigey colour is too light and blends in too much with the walls and curtains.
Sorry I know this isn't the relationships board but it's so frustrating!

What about another colour altogether?

Blending in is good though? You don't really want carpet to be a feature, you want it to be boring and go with everything.

That's exactly what I think. We've had a massive barney over it and he tried to do a snarky "fine if you think you are soooo right we'll go with your choice"...

So I guess we're going with my choice!

Good that you get your choice! I think grey will look a bit institutional and unfriendly.
