Cash Buyers....... Yeah right

Long story short, I sold my house in May to cash buyers. Dropped the price by 10k to accomodate such wonderful buyers. Well they have turned out to be a complete nightmare.

They have delayed and delayed and delayed, now they won't sign the exchange until we have removed all the plant pots from the garden.

I've told my solicitor in no uncertain terms to tell the buyer to go f herself and i've pulled out - on the 11th hour. Please tell me I have done the right thing!

Are they actually cash buyers? They didn't just say that to negotiate a good deal & are stringing things out until they secure their mortgage?

Not exchanging unless plant pots are removed sounds incredibly odd Confused. What sort of plant pots are we talking about here?

Whether you've done the right thing depends on how easy it will be to find another buyer and how desperate you are to move. E.G. will you lose the house you want to purchase if the sale falls through?

Well done! Cash buyer seems to mean a whole range of things. I was impressed by the Agent who insisted on evidence that the money was in place before putting me forward as a cash buyer. Another gave strict milestones. Solicitor instructed immediately, survey and searches to be commissioned promptly and at the same time., etc and the whole thing to progress quickly.

I hope you find another buyer soon. And at a higher price.

You've done the right thing.

Totally. They sound like douchebags.

Sell your house to some nice non-weirdos.

I'm totally intrigued by your garden pots though.

Are they cock shaped or summat??

SparkleSoiree · 31/08/2016 14:59

I would have done that too. Straight back to active marketing and hopefully achieve a better price.

Won't exchange until plant pots were removed? How strange. Hope you find a better buyer!

I wish they were cock shaped KingJoffrey but they are just normal pots, along the path (which is concrete slabs) I seriously have no idea what their problem is.

I am actually just as happy to stay as go, it needs alot of work but is liveable but will take about 10 years to afford to renovate to the spec we wish. We got a good price so was happy to sell. But I am raging from the inside with the current issues.

Last week they emailed my solicitor and asked if I would be removing the wiring from the property...... Yes, because that's exactly what I want, 60 year old electrical cable......

You couldn't make it up. She has spent thousands of pounds on arcitects etc and I feel abit guilty about that. But she chose to have drawings made up before she owned the property.

I am waiting for princess plant pot to call now. I am very exciting mainly because I can't wait to call her a knob

Absolutely the right thing to do. As someone else with a cash buyer you always ask for evidence that the cash is sitting in their bank account. Also the advantage of cash is the speed of the transaction. Also best to say complete within 30 days or house went back on the market. It keeps everyone focused!

Ooo, yes. Keep us updated.

Nothing more awesome than a dickhead getting their commupance.

Bloody hell.

The horror stories I hear about buying and selling property never ceases to amaze me (in a bad way).

She is a total dickhead, I instantly regretted selling it to her when she invited me to her birthday party and said 'loves ya babe' at the end of a phone call.

She can see part of our garden from her current house so I might have to go and buy some extra large plant pots tonight in really offensive colours. Any suggestions?

That's bizarre. You expect stuff to be removed for completion, not for exchange. Until you complete it's your house and you can keep plant pots in your garden if you want. What a cheek.

Get four cheap black buckets. Plant them up with any old plant.
Arrange them where she can see them.
Paint T, W, A and T on the buckets.

You can buy glow in the dark stones.

Maybe arrange them to spell out rude words? Maybe 'Cash Buyer Wankers'?

I am on full bitch mode...... Any other suggestions? I have a feeling she isn't going to disappear without a fight. but I am much larger than her so not scared

If she really still wants to buy, why not think of some ridiculous caveats yourselves?

lalalonglegs · 31/08/2016 16:25

You regretted selling to her because she invited you to her birthday party and called you babes Confused? And she offered a good price for a house which, by your own admission, needs many thousands of pounds of work? I agree that removing the flowerpots seems an odd request but I think you would be better off seeing if you can resurrect the deal. Sleep on it and see if you still feel like this in the morning or whether it might be best just to sell Wine.

ChinUpChestOut · 31/08/2016 16:32

lalalonglegs the OP doesn't really need to sell. She's been messed around since May!!!

The only way I would (grudgingly) resurrect this deal is to put a 7 day completion clause in, request immediate evidence of this mountain of cash that she has and to stipulate there will be no further concessions made, of any sort. Otherwise she can (go on, you know you want to say it) "Fuck off to the far side of off, and when she gets there............"

Our cash buyer was a complete and utter nightmare. Whole thing nearly fell apart on completion day thanks to her fuckwittery.
You did the right thing in telling yours to shove it!

Was it a cash buyer with cash in the bank?

Or, was it a cash buyer who has a mortgage-free property to sell and is putting the proceeds of that towards her purchase?

Makes a difference as to whether the transaction is quick or not.

If they have really been a nightmare, perhaps it was best to pull out at the 11th hour, otherwise couldn't you have just said that everything would be removed on completion (not exchange). Your solicitor would have been happy to email your response.

We were genuine cash buyers and did everything as quickly as possible, including not sweating the small stuff, after survey.
I think you did the right thing, I'd have loved garden pots to have been left! Very few plants in the garden, but I have just made plum jam from the plum tree!

Hope you get a lovely cash buyer soon.

Do you think people are feeling more nervous after Brexit?

We pulled out as buyers at the 11th hour because our seller was slow and refused to pay an indemnity policy on a sewer. I told the estate agents, you have 7 days or no sale, they dragged their feet did fuck all, so I called at 9am on the 8th day and said "were pulling out, you haven't met our deadline", they tried to negotiate but I couldn't be bothered, said no, found a house the next day and bought that one.

I've just bumped into princess plant pot in the shop......

Apparently she had no idea about any of the issues. All the queries have come via her solicitor and not her.

Meh, I'm keeping the house!
