Sinks in DC's Rooms

We are redecorating and I can't decide whether to rip out the sinks in my 2 DS's rooms (both under 12 years old) - the sinks have rarely ever been used - even when they were babies as there is a bathroom right between their bedrooms and it just ended up that the sink in the bathroom was more used.

The sinks are entirely out of the style of the house (Victorian brass taps/shell sink in a 1930's house) but I keep thinking they will become of invaluable use one day and I will forever regret ripping them out and the previous owner's left the installation and purchase invoices and they spent a small fortune on the (hideous) sinks and I can't seem to get that out of my mind!

Would teens be more inclined to use sinks in their own bedrooms vs in a shared bathroom? Has anyone had sinks in their DC's bedrooms that get put to good use? Help me decide please!

If I were you I'd get rid of them, all the boys in my halls at uni used to use the sink in their rooms to pee in at night when they couldn't be bothered to walk next door to the bathroom.

oh sweet Jesus. I hope they never work that one out. There is already enough pee all over the bathroom...

But at least that makes me think that I will NEVER pay to 'upgrade' the sinks!

I would keep them! Definitely. As teens we had them and we all used them all the time. Unless you have loads of bathrooms it really cuts out bathroom squabbles!

I don't mind about devaluing as we aren't planning on selling anytime soon but most of the neighbours houses who had the sinks originally have had them taken out so they must not be popular.

Also... When you have guests you don't have to worry that your wonderful teens will have shaved all over the sink/left makeup all over it/poured gel/sharing foam/been sick/washed some socks in it.

Obviously I never did any of the above and neither did my brothers

I had a sink in my room at my parents house. Was perfect for cleaning out my fish tank!
I eventually turned the sink corner into a girly dressing room kinda thing with fairy lights and mirrors which I loved.
When I moved out my younger sister pinched my (larger) room and soon after the sink was removed. She hated it.

I'd love a sink in my dd bedroom, I always thought it was quite a luxury to have a sink in the bedroom. Great for teeth brushing but maybe boys wouldn't make as much use of it as girls

As a teen I was very envious of a friend with a sink in her room. She had a sink and vanity unit inside a cupboard and in my eyes it very glamorous, like a back stage dressing room! I'm not sure it would have the same appeal to teen boys.

I would only keep it if there was enough room to have a nice door in front and shelves hooks -maybe a sliding door. I wouldn't want to see it if you see what I mean but would find it useful.

Our house is an ex B&Q and had sinks in 3 of the rooms, fetching pinks, beiges and greens house is still a work in progress but sinks are gone

I swung between reducing fights, useful for teeth cleaning / face washing etc and the fact that if we did keep the plumbing I would buy new sinks and build units for them as they just would not look good - really glad they are gone as the plumbers had to remove a good chunk of corroded about to leak everywhere pipe before capping it off!

Flogging I've no idea how they could devalue! Except that they are out of the style of the house but that's a matter of taste - clearly the previous owners liked the style.

Thanks for the replies. I wish my boys would use them, I keep the sinks ready for use but they are never used - even when I've tried to encourage it.

How big are the rooms? How many bathrooms do you have?

I had a sink in my room growing up and loved it. So much nicer as a teenager to be able to brush teeth, strip wash, rinse period knickers in the privacy of your bedroom. Also if you came in late you didn't need to disturb everyone with farting around in the bathroom.

Thanks, Living, that's good to hear.

Imperial the rooms are each big enough for single trundle beds (room to pull out the extra bed) double wardrobes, desk, bedside tables and extra storage ( shelves are over the desks) so I can't think that there is any further storage/space need for the space the sinks take up if that makes sense.

Taking out the sink would give the door 'full swing' as it currently hits the side of a wardrobe but it's not really a problem.

the taps are separate taps (don't know why they are called) not mixer taps so not as useful as the bathroom for quick hand washing as the hot water comes out very hot.

And thanks for other comments - I think originally they were inside cupboards but those are long gone.

And it worries me that clothes and other junk sometimes gets piled onto them and may inadvertently turn the taps on.
