Kitchen / Dining room ideas

We've recently had our hall, kitchen and dining room tiled so it's a big open plan space. But now I don't know how to shape it or what colour to decorate.

It needs to be practical (washing horse, dining room table) but it could be like a den.

The dining room bit leads off into the living room (see pic) and the living room has grey walls, bright green/yellow/grey rug and a yellow chair, so quite bright.

Any ideas - pic attached.

It's a blank canvas but I don't know where to start.
