Why did my carbon alarm emit a loud continuous beep today?

Really high pitched and continuous. Not at all intermittent. Gas engineer has been round (when I was out) saying it couldn't have been carbon monoxide...

Low battery,?

Mine does this when it needs a new battery. A longish beep, and then nothing, until it beeps again the next day. Repeat. Not at all like the battery warning I was expecting, but apparently, that's it.
Good luck!

But it didn't stop til I took it outside. No repeat because it was continuous. I phoned for advice and was advised to go to A and E. What does it sound like when it DOES detect carbon monoxide? I can't seem to find an example of how it sounds in alarm mode.

Is there not a test button so you can check the battery is still working?

There should be a test button to see what it sounds like. Mine makes intermittent chirping noises when it needs a new battery

Sounds like it's doing it's job op, you've got a carbon monoxide leak and it needs checking out asap.
Do as advised in the phone call too.

The loud constant noise probably means it detected CO tbh

Or its faulty

So why did the gas engineer say that? Did he test for carbon monoxide?

Ours was beeping like the smoke alarm does when it's low on battery. We replaced the battery and it didn't go off again. About a month later we had our annual boiler inspection and the boiler was condemned. It was leaking carbon monoxide when the heating was on. Luckily because it was just coming up to summer the heating had rarely been on. He gave us a bit of a bollocking and said if it makes a noise it needs checking out.

Thanks everyone. High pitched alarm went off so I left the house and went to get checked out at a and e. Gas engineer came and couldn't find anything so my husband thinks I've made it up. Which might be more of an issue...

It could be battery related but you needed to get it checked out. Not good your husband thinks you're making it up.
