Stockport - on a budget??

Does anyone live in or know Stockport? We have a budget of 170k Max, looking for 3 bed semi with garden. What areas would you recommend we look at moving to? On our budget I'm worried about ending up somewhere really rough as I'm not originally from around here and don't really know the area (I think I've heard of the general areas to avoid, but no idea where their boundaries fall e.g. how far out Adswood estate goes..And what about Offerton or S Reddish, as I've heard mixed things about those?). Currently in Bredbury/Woodley border, which we like but no suitable properties coming up so widening our search. Needs to have good local amenities as I don't have a car. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Some parts of Offerton are nice, also Hazel Grove?

Davenport - some three beds there at that price and also Edgeley.

I've lived in what was technically Adswood, though not in social housing. Lovely house and fab neighbours. Easy access to local amenities, motorway network etc. You should have a look on Rightmove and have a drive around.

Sorry - you don't have a car. Do you have a friend who could drive you round or speak to an estate agent. If they have several possible properties on their books, would they be prepared to drive you round?

Thanks. We've got a car to view properties etc, just that my husband uses it for work so I need to be able to get to shop, school etc. without it. Been looking at those areas, but getting stuck trying to find something with a garden that's not on the main road (also my husband does a lot of woodwork, so we either need a garage or large shed for that - or money and space to build one.) Sure something will turn up, but it hasn't so far!
Anyone know about this are of Edgeley or this area of Reddish? It's probably the only chance we'll have to move, so also wary of getting stuck in an area with dire schools. I like the look of Hazel Grove and maybe Gee Cross, so keeping my eyes on those too. Thanks!

Cheadle Old Road is a quiet road parallel to Edgeley Road. At one end is Alexandra Park and the reservoir. They may be some match day noise from the stadium further up the depending on the direction of the wind, but it's a good location for someone relying on walking or public transport. There is a cycle route which goes down Cheadle Old Road. We lived on a main road, but were sufficiently set back and up to not find it an issue.

I don't know that exact area of Reddish but have a friend who lives the other side of Stockport Road and her area is fine. Her kids go to St Mary's which is practically beside you there; she has no complaints about the school. Generally I'd describe South Reddish as 'solid working class'. It's a bit dull but not a dreadful area AFAIK.
