Art Deco bathroom...anyone got one? Looking for a sink/ batheoom suite...

We rather fancy fitting an art deco style bathroom, and are busy staring at images on google and searching for things. It seems to be that the sink, lights and mirror, plus the tiling will give it the look. I need to chose a sink quickly, cos our plumber almost ready to fit. Has anyone bought a nice Art Deco bathroom sink? I've found some really gorgeous ones, but they are pretty pricey. It doesn't have to be totally authentic, just give an aura of the style. Or anyone got other Art Deco ideas?

I have a 1940s house, not quite art deco. I considered getting an art deco pedestal sink but in the end decided that it didn't offer enough storage space for a modern family. So we went with a 40s-inspired look rather than a full on deco look. For example, bevelled butchers tiles and a curved-edged vanity.

What's your budget? I found this for £129 online from a company called Aquabliss. We have a very similar basin - the only difference is this one in our house has two tap holes. I don't know if it is genuinely old or not. With the right kind of mirror and wall lights either side it will look fab.

Have a look Burlington, they have basins very similar or the same as the one above. Victorian Plumbing online have a good range including wall lights.

Wowfudge, that's a good suggestion. DH wants one with no upstand at the back, but I'd go for it.
Funnylittleonion, haven't got as far as wall light choosing yet...I'm sure Mumsnet could track exactly what stage our renovations have got,to each week by my searches and questions! Will check out those.
Bobochic, loving the duravit one...I wonder if I can find one at the right price?

Fwiw the upstand is really practical and one of the things that makes it look more authentic.

I agree , and I like the upstand, but DH likes what he thinks of as 'cleaner lines' like the duravit or cavendish ones above. I'm hoping lights, mirror and tiles will pull the look together. The house itself is boring 1960s but it's an empty blank canvas, which is good.

I'm not sure how comfortable the Duravit 1930 loo seat would be. Though, arguably, an uncomfortable loo might help prevent men spending too long in there :)

I have just moved into an apartment with two "old" (late 1980s) Villeroy and Boch Grangracia loos in it. I don't want to change them because (a) because they have a terrific flush from a large cistern that predates limits on cistern capacity (b) they are the loos of my teenage years and fantastically comfortable (or will be when I have installed the two new loo seats I have ordered).

Check out Imperial Bathrooms (I think they also trade as Galassia) for the Astoria Deco and Etoile ranges. Their brochure also provides good styling ideas. Burlington bathrooms are more affordable, the products are not strictly deco but I think the Edwardian and Classical ranges work well in an art deco inspired interior. I've got the Classical sink with a Regal round pedestal and love it! Don't buy it on the Burlington site but shop around, I found that sink prices on different sites varied by £150(!) .

I think a big traditional rainwater shower with a big showerhead and 'telephone' shower /bath mixer add to the deco aura. I have Lefroy Brooks in one bathroom and Crosswater Belgravia in the other (both bought on ebay ex-display so pricey but not eye-wateringly so).

If you are in London, you might want to visit the CPHart show room in Waterloo. I found it very useful (and fun!) - both for ideas and to visualise how different elements work together, plus they have a clearance room with random massively discounted pieces, typically seconds or ex-display items from their numerous showrooms. In the end I did not buy anything in that clearance room but there were some beautiful art deco wall lights (back in April so probably all gone now). NB: the clearance room is closed on Saturdays.

Ladies you are all so wonderful, thank you for the fab suggestions. We're renovating the whole house and gutted the place right back to brick, and to say it's stressful is an understatement. So having a place to go to ask for ideas is a lifesaver and enables me to get through the day without hyperventilating with the anxiety of it all! ( Deep breath, Linspins. Feeling a bit emotional as you might be able to tell!)

Gosh, you've stripped a whole house back to the bricks. How brave . I have a kitchen in which only my appliances (all freestanding) and the sink remain, plus a random table and cupboard, and that daunts me! I cannot decide on cupboards and tiles and so sit in limbo...

Pedestal basins are a pain in the arse though. There's never any room to put your toothbrushes or your loo roll or store your toilet cleaner...

If you are a family, think storage, storage, storage.

I agree that pedestal basins are a bit of a waste of space. I love having large drawers under the basins for all my beauty products and electrical appliances.

We went with Burlington sink and loo, with St James fittings, Imperial lights, and this mirror on the wall. It looks absolutely gorgeous, if I say so myself!

But then we have a huge cupboard just outside the bathroom for storage, which made it a lot easier. Not much space for storage with the Art Deco clean lines.

I had a big bookcase like shelving unit built at the end of the bath for storage. It's perfect, I love it.

Currently on shortlist is the Burlington sink and pedestal, it fits the budget. Loved some of the other sinks, but a sink and pedestal alone from duravit was going to be around £568. Would rather spend a little more on mirror and lights.
