Smoke alarm has kind of 'fallen off' the ceiling with wires hanging out confused

Silly question but would an electrician be able to fix it?

if it's a battery powered one, just replace with a new one, they aren't expensive and would give you piece of mind, the broken one may not now work correctly.

If there are wires hanging out, it may well be a wired one. They are not supposed to be mended. Usually when they "fall off" it is because some irritable person has whacked them to stop the noise.

If wired, you will need a compatible one to match up with the others (they communicate and all sound together).

If it's a wired one, a qualified electrician. Put your postcode into the NICEIC website for example. Look for one who has been in business for a few years and is not just a Domestic Installer (the lowest grade).

Look for the make and model of your detector, see if you can get another the same, if not tell him/her what it is. Maybe there is a standard fitting, I don't know. Burglar Alarm companies also fit them, and there are companies who specialise in fire alarms, but AFAIK only commercial buildings. I should think it is a standard job so they should be able to indicate approx. price over the phone. My commercial premises have a maintenance contract and a log book of tests and maintenance that the Fire Officer checks during inspections.

If it is a Fire Angel, some of them have poor back-up battery life and you could try complaining. The date of manufacture might be on it somewhere.

If you have a hotel, B&B, HMO, school or nursery there may be special rules.
