Your strangest/funniest/most frustrating renovation moment

The plumbers left this morning after finishing up replumbing the bathroom and having fixed the boards back down. I went to make some lunch only to hear a WOOOOOWW WOOOWWWW WOOOOOOWWW noise and realise the cat had gone under the boards for a nosey and was now stuck between the floors.

Cue DH and I calling the cat's name at the floorboards and trying to work out which two joists the WOOOOW was stuck between so we could lift the right board and get her out.

She was not at all apologetic when we found her either, just a bit flustered and embarrassed. Apparently it was our fault for not checking she had finished inspecting for rodents before we let the nasty loud men shut her in Hmm

Tell me your oddest, funniest or most infuriating renovation story Smile

Oh dear... That's given me a warning for when my bathroom gets done soon (hopefully)

Funniest renovation story...? The time I pulled of a length of wallpaper and all the plaster behind it fell off too, leaving me hysterically staring at a brick wall? That was fun! Looks nice now it's redone though.

As a 12-yr old my patents were renovating a house, got round to doing the kitchen. So most of the extension is built, tarp over the top and the roof is being done the next day. Went down in the morning to 6" of snow in the kitchen...

The time I told my dh to 'mind out for that paint', he'd balanced a 5L tin of white emulsion on our not-wide-enough bathroom windowsill. I heard a bang/cry, went back to the bathroom to find dh covered. Hair, face, clothes, up the walls, across the floor. IT WAS EVERYWHERE. I said 'just step in the shower & wash it off'. He then left the room and I cleaned it ALL up. It took forever. I'll never forget him standing there, like a toddler frozen to the spot, caught in the act. From that time on I've always done the diy.

Had one piece of wallpaper to hang in the kids room, when hubby arrived home. He suggested he hung this last piece whilst I went and had a nice cup of tea.
Throught no more about it until much later, went into room to admire all my hard work over the previous week.
Looked really great until I noticed the (only) piece hubby had hung, was upside down!!.
How did I know?? The paper had bunnies all over it!!. 30 years later and it's the only place I've ever let him hang.

Mine decide to demo out the plaster in the bedroom without covering anything. We slept on the sofa-bed in the living room for a week.

We broke a ceramic sink just a few weeks ago when doing our own kitchen renovation. We both cried 😂

My dds hamster had to be hacksawed out if ou r bedroom wall

Having carpets relaid so we'd taken up hallway and porch carpets, there was a step that was hollow, carpet just kinda covered it before.
Anyways. I was in bed and heard scrabbling inside the wall. We assumed it was a mouse or whatever in the side loft .
dh had one of those epiphany moments and checked the hamsters cage ... yeah houdini was out.

So he hacksawed a hole in the wall and out she came!!
We think she'd climbed right thru the floorboards and into a cavity wall, or somehow got in the loft? Fallen into a cavity? Who knows.
monster

We took the kitchen ceiling down to replaster - the airing cupboard was above the ceiling - and a very large pair of fold mans string (70's) under crackers fell on DH head!

It's still funny!
