incorrect council tax bill

Didn't really know where to put this thread other than property so apologies if in the wrong place.

I bought my house end of December 2014 and I did it up for a year so never lived there. I told the council I wasn't living there and they gave me 6 months reduced council tax - they said I couldn't have any more than that.
I gave them the address I was currently living at (my parents) for any correspondence.

I honestly cant remember the conversation about whether I told them what date I would be moving in (not that I actually knew myself at that point) so for the past 6 months I have been paying full council tax.

I just received my new council tax bill (sent to my parents house) and I have been given 50% reduction and they have worked out my DD's for the year which will automatically start in may... I have now moved into the house.

So WWYD should I ring them and confess or think its their mistake and say nothing? Is it my responsibility to tell them they are wrong?

Call them. If you're single you get a discount, I think? Best to check though. They won't care whether it was their mistake or yours. If they figure it out you'll be left with a massive bill to pay back. If you're living there now and have been paying full CT for 6 months, why would you not pay it now?

Ring them. They will always catch up with you and will pursue arrears. If you have been overpaying as you received the single person's discount then they will refund you the amount overpaid. You will need to provide evidence of the date when you moved in though otherwise they'll think you are trying to fiddle things when the property was actually empty and you weren't entitled to any discount.

Definitely ring them (I used to work in Council Tax) get the bill corrected to the right dates and you will be charged accordingly.

The payments will be recalculated for you.
