Anyone been in this situation? We've just had our offer accepted but we are away for three weeks. The broker has advised to start the mortgage application when we are back so we are able to submit documents.

Congratulations and Yes. We sent everything to our broker before we left we thought he might need for the mortgage application and instructed our solicitor. Not much happened in that time to be honest - it still took 3 months after we were back to exchange. We just felt better getting the ball rolling before we left!

I haven't been in this situation, but, depending on when you're going, you could get the ball rolling beforehand. Ask the broker for a comprehensive list of the documents she/he needs and do the same with your solicitor. Some of the things could possibly by sourced by email if necessary while you're away. I personally wouldn't want to delay the process by three weeks at such an early stage. Of course it depends if you'll have time to organise paperwork before you go.

That's what I said but the broker said they don't exactly know what information they might ask for? If we aren't able to provide the information then they would close the file and we would need to re apply?
I would obviously prefer to get the ball rolling ASAP but broker seems to think it's not a good idea.
