Moving in a few weeks, can anyone recommend a company to use please? I got a quote from James removals but it was just as high as Pickfords etc.

I'd like to find somewhere a bit cheaper if poss. We don't have loads of valuable or precious furniture etc so don't really need to pay for the best quality service possible...

I've been looking around, also moving from SE London but to Liverpool. I think I'm going to go with James as they were the cheapest, also had quotes from Pickfords and Britannia, but it's still about £2300 for the move and full packing service.

Bournes removals were great for us. - I don't know about prices as we only compared a few and actually went with the mid range one (Bournes) as they came on recommendation, their vans were branded so I knew my goods weren't going off by some weird freak in an opportunistic burglars' van, they were professional when they came to do the quote and had all the paperwork etc ready which gave me the impression they were organised and reliable - and they were. It was also a long time ago for us but friends have used them since and thank us for the recommendation so they still seem to doing a good job.

One trick is to consider Southampton based firms. London firms are often more expensive. And often if it is a one day pack and move firms prefer to race up the motorway with an empty van and then return home.

We used Harradines, they were excellent. Packed for us, really good service. They made a mistake during packing which was fixed with no fuss at their expense.

Can't help with any others but we used James when we moved and were very happy with the service.

I just used optimistix movers ( and was very happy.

They packed (nothing broke) and moved and their quote was very competitive.

If you seek for affordable removal services, you should try going to a website that provides free online removal quotes. By doing so, you’ll be able to compare removal costs from trusted removal companies near you.

We used James and they weren't as expensive as Pickford's back then. Would use them again, they were excellent.

We used James nearly 10 years ago to move from Southqark to East Sussex and they were excellent. They were way cheaper than Pickfords and didn't try to flog us any unnecessary insurance etc (home insurance normally covers you if you're using professional packers). They did all the packing and unpacking for us.

Obviously Southwark not Southqark blush!
