new bathroom

At last after years of saving and procrastinating I'm getting a new bathroom installed. I'm happy with the quote, and I've agreed all the new bathroom 'products' (bath, loo etc.). Work is due to start next week. It now seems I've misunderstood how much needs to be paid in advance. The company told me £600 before installation and the rest on completion which I was fine with. I've now been invoiced for the total cost of the products, plus £600 which is towards labour, disposal etc. this week - with the rest of the labour costs due on completion. So I'd be paying about £2500 total now, with about £1500 when it's done. Is this usual? I was surprised to be asked to pay so much upfront when I'd expected it to be less - I can pay it, just want to be sure I'm not being taken for a ride.

We are currently having a bathroom and ensuite done atm. Paid 50% on day one, then 2 installments of the remainder 50% less about £500 which is to be paid on completion! Be ready for a lot of dust and noise Cake

Think I'd ask for the sanitaryware delivered to my house and to have the receipt. Would be happy to pay for that (and have done the equivalent for materials on various work we've done). Would also pay labour in installments once sensible chunks of work completed, but not labour in advance. Depends what you have in writing though I guess.

Thanks, both. There was nothing in writing about when payment was supposed to happen - just the total amounts. I'm rubbish at getting work done - never know the right questions to ask or how to tell what's OK and what's not.
