Extractor Fans - Ducting - Piglet John?

I posted here about my builder and plastering fiasco and got some useful replies so here is the next issue...

We are just wanting to get comfort around what we think should have been done vs what has been done.

Please can you provide assurance / correct me

We have 4 extractor fans & these have been ducted as follows:

2x bathroom & ensuite - Into the loft and the motor is nowhere near the bathroom - its at the end of long ducting in the loft - so issue here is two fold: 1) motor not effective as end of 5m ducting and "curved" round a corner. 2) its ducting into my loft not outside.

1x utility - into the ceiling cavity - between 1st and second floor. I have stuck my mobile up a spotlight hole and taken a video - its just extracting air and no ducting to be seen. I have checked and this could have been installed in the wall which would have been preferable.

1x WC - again into the ceiling cavity - there is no outside wall - the ducting would have to run 3m to the outside in the ceiling cavity. i can not confirm if there is ducting attached - i can see a hole when i look outside but cant see if that is from the WC - going to check in the light & with builder.

Am I correct in thinking that all the above is unacceptable? All should be ducted to the outside should they?

Thanks in advance

They must not vent into the loft, it is essential they vent outside.

Holding a joss stick under the vent may enable you to see or smell where it comes out.

Venting between floors will cause smells and rot.

I hope you haven't paid yet.

As for the long duct, you may need a more powerful fan, but inline ducted fans can be very powerful and quiet, so this is not difficult. There are plenty with an extract rate of 240 cu.m/hr or more. They are not as cheap as rubbishy 80 cu.m builders fans.

Hi Piglet John - thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate it and glad i am not getting worked up about nothing.

I sourced the fans myself after getting exasperated waiting for guidance on extraction rates and noise from builder and electrician.

I went for the highest extraction rate / lowest noise within my budget and even bought the external venting grilles! A few months ago we had discussed venting out through the loft roof... can not believe this has happened.

I got these fans:
Bathroom & Ensuite: MANROSE MF100T 4 Inch Inline Duct Fan with Timer
Utility: AIRFLOW QUIET AIR QT120T QUIET EXTRACTOR FAN
WC: ST100T Silent Tornado Hi-Power Bathroom Fan with Timer

No we have not paid them - we have the retainer still to pay and one final stage payment which they will not be getting until fixed.
