We're on the house hunt and keep seeing houses that we'd like to put in a new kitchen and / or bathroom. Trouble is, we're new to this so no idea what such things cost. I know it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string? ' question but can anyone give me an idea of the cost of replacing a bathroom and kitchen please?

Obviously depends on the size of the rooms and cost of sanitary ware and cabinets, and whether you are doing the work yourselves or not and where you are.

I would say that a bathroom with partial tiling could be done for around £3k and a kitchen anywhere between £5-£10k if someone is doing it for you. If the layout is being changed and appliances are needed then it's the higher end.

as pp. have said - it depends on the size and how much you get done. We paid about 6K for a kitchen (units, appliances, flooring and fitting plus removal of and disposal of old stuff).

For a bathroom - around 3.5 - 4k was the labour cost of new toilet, bath, shower, vanity unit, tiled walls and floor, plastering and painting. The rest of the cost would depend on what kind of units etc you went with.

Personally I would budget £10 - £15k for a bathroom and kitchen depending on size but that gives you a ballpark figure.

I had a kitchen fitted 2 years ago with Ikea units, all new appliances so dishwasher, oven, hob, extractor, combi microwave, American fridge/freezer, sink, tap, instant hot water tap, flooring etc etc cost £9k all in (5m long) whereas bathroom wise we fitted it ourselves and including flooring, new electric shower, partial tiling (again we tiled it ourselves) etc was £2k. Would be double that if we had someone install and tile it. But I am a demon googler and like bargains.

£10 - £15k gives you a figure to work with. Basically you have to look at the difference between cosmetically it needs replacing or this shower leaks and needs replacing. We are living with this bathroom with gold taps needs replacing. Functions but awful to look at Grin so it can wait.
