Damaged dining room table

A vase of flowers has just leaked water onto my dining room table leaving some water and colour residue in the shape of the place mat it was resting on. How do I find out what type of wood it is and if it can be sanded and re varnished? I'm really worried it is ruined.

Can you post a photo? Also do you know whether the table is solid wood or veneered?
