Furniture for children's bedrooms

Where do you buy kids furniture? We're redoing our children's bedrooms (aged 4 and 18m) and I would like a wardrobe and possibly chest of drawers for each of them.

IKEA stuff looks a bit boring, mamas and papas a bit pricy. Or should I just pay more and get adult sized stuff they can grow into?

Any recommendations gratefully received.

I bought a second hand wardrobe for my daughter for £40 in a second hand shop and painted it (you can see it in the background of the picture), it was certainly cheap but not the least time consuming of options!

Are they boys or girls and what kind of look do you lie, something modern or more traditional?

I bought everything second hand. I use eBay a lot, I got an excellent traditional pine bed for my son. My daughter got her cousins bed. A gorgeous hand made wardrobe from a charity shop and another wardrobe second hand from a neighbour. I also got some Vertbaudet book cases.

We just used normal adult furniture - couldn't see the point in splashing out on mini wardrobes etc that would be too short for their clothes in a few years.

Thanks everyone. I get lots of grown up stuff from eBay so I think I'll stick to that plan. I just wondered if there was a hidden gem I'm not aware of.

My 4 year old is a boy and is having a loosely themed toy story room, with some toy story cushions and curtains (from eBay) and perhaps some wall stickers. My youngest is a girl and I've got her some nice Quentin Blake / Roald Dahl prints so a loose theme around those.

I like the idea of painting something myself but I don't have the patience! That wardrobe looks lovely though.

I'll check out verbaudet as well.

Thanks everyone!
