We have a black plastic valve on the pipe to the toilet? Does anyone know which way I turn it off if I need to, ie anti or clockwise.

A couple of times this morning after I've flushed toilet, a trickle of water keeps being released after it's filled up. Luckily so far, it's stopped when I flushed the toilet again. Worried in case I can't stop it trickling, so just wanted to know which way to stop water.

if it has a slot, you turn it so the slot lies across the pipe (some of these have a plastic or metal lever, usually blue, red or black).

If it has a T handle or round handle, you screw it down as if screwing on a jar lid.

Take a photo of the filling and flushing valve inside your cistern, and especially the water level which might be a bit higher than the usual mark, to try to identify the fault.
