Gas fire - stove or hole in the wall glass fronted

I have had my heart set on a wood burning stove, but have come to the conclusion that gas probably suits our lifestyle better. We have no access to cheap wood. We are busy and don't spend much time relaxing in the living room and if it's a bit of a faff to use we won't use it. I don't want extra cleaning. We have central heating but I'd like the option to just heat the living room in the evening for an hour or two after children in bed, so it won't be on all day, heating the whole house. So, now trying to decide between a gas stove (contemporary style) or a glass fronted hole in the wall type. Think they are both very efficient. Anything else to think about when comparing? Do you have one that you love/hate? Thank you ????

No advice sorry op, but bumping in the hope that somebody else does. We need to replace the 20 year old gas fire in our living room and have had the same wood burner/gas stove discussion as you. Do gas stoves look ok in newish houses do you think?

Our house is 15 years old. We are redoing the whole house in a fairly contemporary style. I want the living room to be cosy but also contemporary. There are some very modern stylish looking stoves which would definitely look good in a modern house. And some of the more traditional ones would probably look fine too. I do want to feel like I am saving money when I use the fire in an evening when I just want to warm one room, and I like that room to be very warm so I currently heat the whole house really warm in an evening.

I'm interested in this question too. I have a 60s house with a hideous marble-effect fireplace and fake coal fire. I'd really like to replace it with a gas fire that looks like a wood burner, but I don't know if such things exist.

They definitely exist - just google gas stove fire, you'll see lots.

I really like the glass fronted ones, but the only ones I can find prices for are about the 2k mark. Bit too much for us!

Will have to have a look in some showrooms i think.
