DIY Experts - HELP I've buggered up my cabinet doors

Argh.

Long story short, I have tried to modify some IKEA borgsjo cabinet doors as the bastards have discontinued the line. I wanted to replace the wood with glass.

They are simple construction - 4 piece frame (one piece either side) with a ridge in the centre that holds the panel. I thought it would be simple, remove a side, slide out the panel, measure and replace with glass, refit the side.

Except everyone I've spoken to says not that simple. I have builders in who said they could cut the wood panel out for me and I could attach glass/perspex to the back. So they have done that, and cut out the wood. Except now the ridge that the panel sat in is v visible and looks terrible, so even if I attached the glass to the back it would be v obvious that the panel was supposed to sit in the ridge.

What can I do??? I can't get hold of any more doors and I'm loathe to spend too much as its only IKEA, but i have to at least try to resolve this.

I've attached some photos to hopefully show what I mean.

HELP wise mumsnetters, does anyone have any ideas?!

Actually that is a really good idea. I guess I could remove the back part of the groove so the front becomes a kind of lip?

Thanks for the suggestion, I had started to consider filling the groove with silicon but there is a high risk of that looking awful, so I'll explore this option first :)
