painted wood outside?

Hello,

I've got a painted wood indoor table and chairs. I'm going to use them as garden furniture. I get a cover for general storage but is there a sealant or something that would protect them? All I can find via Google is outdoor paint for protecting bare wood.

I think you should repaint them in an external woodwork paint. This is more durable I would have thought and designed for outdoor wood.

painted or not, they will get damp, swell, warp, rot, and fall apart.

Putting them under cover when not in use will delay it.

Sorry.

We have covers, thanks Piglet john.

Ah Millymolly, I would hate to repaint them but I agree that's the best option.

I know this sounds crazy but I hate garden furniture, I spent less on this set of table and chairs than I would have on something purposely made for the garden that I wouldn't have liked nearly as much. My thinking is, I've had wooden, purpose made, garden furniture and that required a lot of upkeep and still went wonky quickly and I never really liked it. I thought instead that I would get an old set of table and chairs from a used furniture store. Like this I'm saving money, it looks better to me and is better quality than I could afford in the same money spent on actual garden furniture, and since I haven't invested the earth it's ok if it doesn't last more than a short while. I guess I was just hoping there would be a nice easy spray style solution!

The alternative is something you can easily take down and store somewhere dry. This means getting it out and putting it away every use.
