is a dehumidifier better than just opening the windows?

I thought I'd better ask before i spend £100 on one!

It is a godsend for drying washing indoors.

I do find that I need the window open in that room sometimes though but it's where we are permanently drying washing at the moment so it's not a surprise.

we do dry our washing indoors but in a range of different rooms

It depends if you want a freezing cold house. In the summer we open windows. In this weather if rather keep the heat so use the dehumidifier. Also if it's really cold and damp outside then opening windows isn't going to dry things out as well as the dehumidifier will.

I have to agree with other posters. It's been worth the money for us. I do still open the windows a bit to let the fresh air in, unless it's -4 like today!

i cant open window during the day when out due to security so dehumidifier. if you can leave windows open due to being in or no security issue then maybe not such a need.

In winter, definitely. Particularly if you live somewhere that's just plain damp for most of the year.

Much better then opening a window (for our house anyway), we have cold spots in the house where condensation used to settle, no amount of airing fixed the problem.

It's worth paying for a good one, ours deals with the damp and dries any washing that won't go in the tumble dryer.
