Hello! We are currently in the process of buying a house in the sticks. The village has no gas and the house has currently got night storage heaters. Sooooo I'm wondering what other people do? Do you have oil heaters or electric? Are electric heaters expensive? Is oil a faff? Thoughts...?

you budget to install an oil central heating system.

electric heating is very expensive. Oil prices obviously vary but are usually on a par with mains gas, and currently much cheaper.

oil isn't a faff, you just keep an eye on levels and tank up when cheap. and you must have the boiler serviced annually.

ps if you like a gas hob, you have one fuelled by an LPG bottle. Easy!

Thanks for that. Got a quote for electric for £6k which seems like loads. The bloke also quoted for oil but said it wasn't much Difference and suggested we keep electric as that's what's in the house already

electric heating salesman, eh?

Get some OFTEC oil people round to quote.
LPG is another alternative, but it is more expensive and ties you to one supplier. It can't be stolen though!

this is interesting - cost per kwh for the various fuel types. Electricity currently 3 times gas.

obviously you do have to factor in installation costs, but think long-term.

and think insulation.
