Kitchen questions: worktops and flooring...

We are halfway through our extension/new kitchen and time to make some decisions.

Firstly worktops, has anyone used worktops.org? I'm 99% decided on quartz and they seem to be the cheapest but would rather go on a recommendation if possible.

Then flooring... we are having underfloor heating so had decided on engineered wood but tiles are the same price so now we are not sure! And colour... not sure if wood really goes with light grey units and dark worktop?! haven't even thought about wall colours yet, agggh. Any wise words are welcomed!!

Thank you for reading.

We visited a flooring showroom yesterday and the chap said he wouldn't recommend engineered wood flooring for kitchens as it can be ruined by say a dishwasher leak. Its thrown a spanner in my thoughts as have UFH too. Will watch for other messages.

I've got a quartz worktop (marble like Silestone) and Limestone tiles with UFH. If you go for a neutral/beige colour it goes with anything.

Used worktop.org - they seem to be the retail front for Sheridan (who most kitchen companies seem to use). They misquoted us - but it all got sorted out. Would use them again.

I have UFH, with large dark grey sparkly floor tiles. They show every crumb and are difficult to clean as they also show up smears! I would go for a beige/neutral tiles next time. I have that in the hall and it rarely needs any attention.

I still think I prefer wood but now I'm concerned about leaks - but surely if it's really bad any flooring would get damaged?

Interesting about worktops.org, I'm awaiting a final quotation but was a bit concerned that the phone number rings through to a mobile which was answered with a "hello" rather than saying the company name. Will see what price they come up with!

my quote from them was twice the online figure, once they'd added on a hob and sink cut out and tap hole. things I would say are quite essential in any kitchen! we've now gone with a good quality laminate.

Yep, all the cutouts etc have added another £1k to the price! Not so competitive now....

my worktops and floor are both bamboo - from different companies
6 years old and still do the job just fine - and this is a "boots on" house
