Trashed the garage door...

Hi

I accidentally drove into (through?) the fibreglass garage door this morning (don't ask how...). And ouch! replacement doors are so expensive. I see affordable ones on Gumtree or eBay but then there is the hassle of getting it to ours. Any advice? I am in SW London if anybody knows of a good garage door replacement place/person.

Call your Homeowners insurance?
My Mum backed a car into hers accidentally (big merc not a scratch on it) and it was replaced under the insurance minus her excess.

Good idea , but I think accidental damage is a separate part of policies , I think you have to pay an extra premium for that. I think the basic insurance covers fire burglary storm and flood.

Our hand break failed and obliterated our garage door and our house insurance covered it.

I drive like a demented roadrunner but my foot does know where the pedal is for the brake. Disk break to all wheels and it stops so hard you almost put the passengers out the front window. Thats when I can find anyone brave enough to be a passenger. Jeremy clarke has nothing on my driving he is a pussy cat. I did once have my brakes fail coming down a hill in Streatham. I had to kerb it to stop . That was back before disk brakes. Gearboxes were awful then too with double de clutching. Ahh those were the days

Thanks for all the advice. And it is heartening to hear there are others who did the same

It seems, as we are renting, that the landlord with his building insurance or tenant insurance can claim against our car insurance. We will check whether it is easier (and cheaper, compared to our losing our no-claims bonus and paying increased contributions etc.) to just bite the bullet and replace it at our cost.

Get a faking mini, Footrest over the other side when you take your foot off the clutch , and best of all nice long accelerator pedal . If you dont know where your foot is maybe not , as the accelerator pedal has grunt and you could demolish the fa@king house even and as well as. How can you miss a fa@ing garage door even
Specsavers and binoculars or dont wear the balaclava back to front when driving even and as well as
