House keys lost in post

House keys got left at a theatre, theatre kindly said they would post them back. Sadly, they sent them in a normal envelope and it arrived this morning, empty. So I want to replace all our locks (two front doors and the back door). OH grumbling that it's not necessary. Envelope obviously had our address on it, although the keys didn't. We will need to replace three locks and get a couple more sets of keys cut too as we leave spares with my sister. So not cheap. But better than being burgled right?

Hell yes! I would have those locks replaced before the end of the day!!

If it's a Yale type one with a barrel, you can replace just the barrel which is cheaper.

Even if it's not a Yale lock you may be able to just change the barrel.

I would definitely change the locks.

It might be cheaper for you to just have the cylinder of the locks changed, that's the core part, rather than the whole lock, worth asking about.
Also you might be able to claim on your house/contents insurance, as it can be expensive.

A bit late now, but this is why you should never send keys to the address they belong to. Always arrange for them to be delivered elsewhere than collect them. (to a friend's house or similar).
You will have to replace the locks.

Yes, was just going to pop down the ironmonger with the barrels to get new ones - can't do that til Monday though as only me and kids in, so will be sleeping with the alarm on I guess.

I had a very dozy flatmate who actually wrote her name and address on her key ring. Luckily I spotted it one day and made her remove it.

OH is a moron. I would have asked them to be posted special delivery and offered to reimburse the theatre.

It's only about £30 to do all of them, then another £15 or so for keys. Sod it, I've ordered the cylinders on screwfix already.

Done. Took about five minutes a door and all sets came with three keys so I only need to get one extra cut for the front doors (we don't bother taking keys out for the back door). Was under a tenner for each lock from screwfix.
