Door canopy to protect window?

We have damp coming through one of the windows in our kitchen. It was discovered when all the tiles came off when we had the kitchen done and part of the wall was completely wet. We had the render around the window fixed and the bell cast rebuilt, plus new weathershield paint put on. However, we are still getting a small damp patch.

The builder who plastered the room when we had the kitchen done said the window is in the wrong place as it is fitted too close to the outside wall and should be brought a bit further in. Or he thought the cavity tray may be breaking down. Of course this was all discovered as everything else was scheduled to go in so we did the best fixing job we could in the time.

Having the window replaced would obviously be a big, messy and expensive job and could lead to the room needing redecoration when it's not long done.

I wondered if fitting an extended door canopy or permanent weatherproof awning over the wall with the window could protect it enough from the rain to avoid this. The reason for having over the whole wall would be so I could also put some wall clothes lines on there to have somewhere to dry clothes outside even when it's a bit rainy. Something a bit like this looks good. It would be over a section of path with a 4ft high wall next to it so it should make a nice sheltered area.

Is this likely to help or could it just make it worse?

Replacing a window isn't as messy or big a job as you imagine. We had all of ours replaced a couple of years ago, and none of the rooms needed redecorating beyond touching up gloss on a windowsill.

It might be worth getting a quote to have the window changed/repositioned before spending on a temporary fix.
