Big old house, now painting old woodwork ( which was painted years ago)
After sanding the old surface, do any of you have views/experience for the best paint to use?

I am currently using Dulux quick dry satinwood. Coverage not great.
Any better brands?

All hints and advice much appreciated, Thanks to all

I like satinwood.

I have been hearing good things about Sikkens.

White oil gloss is more durable, but may yellow if it can't see sunlight. The formulae have improved since makers were first compelled to go to low VOC.

Water based paints will not yellow (unless perhaps you are a smoker). You might find water based paints easier to use if you stir in a little extra water.

We've used Sikkens oil based eggshell (or might be satinwood, I can't remember). Very good durability/coverage. However it does yellow over time in places without much light.

On the other hand we've used Dulux water based satinwood in some places and it's not lasted well at all. It's flaking a bit after only 2/3 years - though that could be due to the fact it's probably gone on top of oil based. But then you probably have oil based too.

Swings and roundabouts...

Our Sikkens is from 3 years ago so maybe their new formula yellows less.

thanks Pigletjohn and minipie.
I do prefer water based just because the clean up is so much easier.
Also does it dry faster?

i used a v expensive outdoor gloss paint on my exterior windows 2 summers ago during a mild dry spell and it did not properly dry for weeks and then peeled off that winter.

I did wonder minipie's point about using water based over oil based.

how much do you sand the old paint surface first?
Any other tips?

Any thoughts on Dulux Once?

one-coat paints are generally not much good.
