What is your favourite thing in your house?

Apart from your family!

And where did you get it from?

It can be anything from a home appliance, a piece of furniture, the tiles in your bathroom or your patio lights. I'm looking for inspiration for our new home and I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's worked really well for you. Thanks!

My Persian rugs. Bought second hand and bargainously from eBay. They're not perfect but the house is ancient and we have 2 cats, a dog and a toddler so I don't really want something which I'd have to worry about. They inject a bit of colour into the room and make it cosy!

Our fireplace - we live in an Edwardian house and love the traditional fireplace with the tiles around it. The tiles are a bit cracked and not perfect which I just love. I just think of all the people who lived there before sitting in front of the fire just like we do.

Our sensor light in our kitchen, it comes on automatically when you walk in. Our kitchen has no windows since an extension was put on the house, so the previous owners had it installed and it is fab. No need to struggle with a light switch when carrying plates back, and it turns itself off when you leave. It has got to the point now where we complain if the light doesn't come on automatically in other kitchens Grin

I've got original stained glass windows and matching door in my 1930s house. The windows and door panel are oval which make them unusual. My most favourite thing is to put a candle in them in the winter. Cosy!

Our huge front door. It is a converted flat in a Victorian detached house. We've got the main front door - big tall wide thing. Very solid.

Ooh my Victorian farmhouse table in the kitchen. Bought on eBay. Bit battered and not to everyone's taste but it gives me the warm fuzzies.

Oh yes Iggly, know what you mean about the doors. Both of ours are very old and solid with fixed hinges and bolts. There's something wonderful about locking up for the night and drawing the bolts across, makes me feel very safe and protected!

My solid wood dining table and chairs. Nabbed on EBay. It looks like something from Game of Thrones Grin .

Also my shabby chic (urgh hate that expression) pine welsh dresser which I bought from EBay and revamped. I know they're considered a bit passé now but I do not care! I love it!

The about 50 year old wall clock from my parents' house, now hanging in our main bedroom. The ticking makes me feel so serene and in peace. If I close my eyes when lying in bed, my best childhood memories go past.

A big brown leather slouchy armchair in the living room. We have fabric sofas but I adore the chair - guests always gravitate to it and it just adds so much to the room.

The pictures on the walls in our living room. They are from my grandparents house, mostly pen and inks drawn by my grandad, but there is also an etching that was my grandads prized possession. No matter how we decorate, and we've decorated a lot in 18 years, those pictures always go back up

Georgian windows - not great for keeping the room warm but they are so beautiful.

I love my wood burner. It's in the kitchen/diner and we spend most of our time in there. I also love my sewing room- I can just about see the sea Smile

My current favourite thing is my new footstool. I had a search set up on Ebay for months but nothing came up. Then about a month ago dh and I went to a local antiques fair and I saw a hideous footstool and decided I could up cycle it (with no previous desire or experience in this area). I stripped the varnish off it and reupholstered it and it looks bloody amazing if I do say so myself - also it's super comfy too Grin I'm still feeling smug about it several weeks after finishing the project.

My sofa.

It's nothing fancy, just a DFS one like this my sofa but I love it, it's so squishy and comfy and I just love cuddling up in the corner each evening. People tend to fall asleep on my sofa!

Now I'm imagining myself lounging on a comfy sofa feet up on the footstool in front of a wood fire, gazing out of my Georgian windows Grin

Our oak dining table. It's old, been in DH's family for over a 100 years. It is so versatile; it's round with drop leaves so can fit a small space, but it has four leaves so that it can seat 10-12 when fully extended. Right now I have 2 leaves in and using it as a desk for a big project for work.

my fjords recliner armchair - my grown up kids fight to see who gets to it first when they visit

My front door - solid wood, painted gloss purple and with etched glass windows. I got it through Voysey & Jones and it was a replacement for the horrible UPVC door the house had when I bought it, so it has really increased the kerb appeal. And has a larger than average letter box to take all my online shopping deliveries! Grin

I've got two, one of which is part of the house and one of which is furniture.

In the hallway, there is a carving of a face which I think is original (late Victorian terraced house) and it makes me happy every time I remember to look up and actually notice it.

The other is my second hand writing bureau - I'd wanted one ever since I was a very bookish six year old, and finally got one this year.
